The IBM Uniscribe Selectric Self-Correcting Typewriter is a vintage piece of office equipment that combines advanced technology and classic design. This typewriter, introduced by IBM in the 1960s, revolutionized the typing world with its unique and innovative features.
The IBM Uniscribe Selectric typewriter is equipped with a rotating type element, which allows for the selection of any one of 12 characters from a cartridge. This feature significantly improves typing speed and accuracy, as typists no longer need to change typebars or ribbons for different characters. The type element rotates smoothly and quietly, ensuring a consistent and professional-looking output.
One of the standout features of the IBM Uniscribe Selectric is its self-correcting capability. The typewriter has a correction key that allows typists to easily and accurately correct mistakes. When the correction key is pressed, a small rubber eraser moves under the type element and erases the incorrect character, leaving a space for the corrected character. This feature saves time and effort, reducing the need for manual corrections.
The IBM Uniscribe Selectric typewriter is also known for its sturdy and durable construction. It is built with high-quality materials, including a cast aluminum frame and a solid composite base. The keys are responsive and well-spaced, ensuring comfortable and efficient typing.
The typewriter also features a built-in ribbon selector, which allows typists to switch between different colors without having to change the ribbon. This feature is particularly useful for creating documents with multiple colors or for proofreading purposes.
In terms of design, the IBM Uniscribe Selectric typewriter is a classic piece of office equipment. It has a sleek and modern look, with a black finish and chrome accents. The typewriter's compact size makes it easy to store, while its weight and sturdiness ensure that it stays in place during use.
In conclusion, the IBM Uniscribe Selectric Self-Correcting Typewriter is a must-have for any collector of vintage office equipment or for anyone looking for a reliable and efficient typing solution. Its unique features, including the rotating type element, self-correcting capability, and built-in ribbon selector, make it a standout product in its class. Additionally, its sturdy construction and classic design ensure that it will continue to serve as a functional and decorative piece for years to come.

Decently clean but all vintage items need a little detailing. Very good condition. See pictures for cosmetic condition.
Was in sparing use until fairly recently. Very nice example of this unit. I tested this by typing and using the lift off tape. Looks like residue from sticker near the line spacing lever.
Not sure if I am not setting it correctly or is supposed to be upright. Black upright plastic support does not lock in up position. Some minor nicks, scratches, and smudges consistent with vintage use.
I tinkered with other tabs and levers they seemed to work.
